Citizenship Amendment Act

The opposition has been targeting the Modi government ever since the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) was notified by the Central Government. The opposition has raised many questions regarding the law, which are now roaming in the minds of common people as well.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has answered all these questions in an interview.

Why did Muslims not get rights in CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act)?

  • Amit Shah has given the reason behind not giving Indian citizenship to Muslims under CAA. Shah said that CAA is a law to give citizenship to minorities of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
  • He said that these three countries are Islamic. Then how can Muslims be a religious minority there?

Can Muslims also take citizenship?

  • Amit Shah also gave the reason for not including Muslims in CAA. However, he said that if they still want Indian citizenship, they can apply for it through constitutional means.

Following the release of the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) guidelines earlier this week, the opposition parties criticized the legislation.

Last week, Congress leader Pawan Khera declared that if his party wins the majority at the Centre, the Act will be repealed. Shashi Tharoor, a senior Congress politician, made comparable statements on Wednesday. When questioned about these claims, the minister of interior responded that even the opposition knows it has little chance of winning.

“Even the coalition of INDI knows it cannot take the initiative. CAA was introduced by the BJP, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. That cannot be undone. We will make the entire nation aware of it,’said Shah, to deny those who would like to see it repealed the opportunity.

He ridiculed the opposition’s claims that the controversial law is being used by the Bharatiya Janata Party to cultivate new voters.
“There is no other job for the opposition. They have a track record of acting one way while saying another. But Prime Minister Modi’s and the BJP’s histories are distinct. What the PM Modi or the BJP say is indelible. “Every assurance that Modi gave is realised,” stated Shah.
Shah refuted the accusation that the BJP is exploiting CAA for political purposes by highlighting the opposition’s parallel objections to important decisions pertaining to national security.
They even asserted that airstrikes and surgical attacks had political advantages. Thus, is it not appropriate for us to combat terrorism?” Shah inquired.

“All opposition parties, including Rahul Gandhi, Mamata, or Kejriwal, are indulging in politics of lies, so the question of timing does not arise,” the minister responded to questions on the timing of the CAA notification.

Shah reaffirmed that the BJP has made clear what it intended to do with the CAA well in advance. He drew attention to the fact that the party’s 2019 manifesto included a pledge to implementing the CAA and granting Indian citizenship to refugees from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan.
The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill was approved by both chambers of Parliament in 2019 as part of the BJP’s well-defined goal. Covid caused a delay in it. Long before the party won a mandate in the elections, the BJP had cleared its agenda.”

“Rules used to be only formalities. Timing, political gain, or loss are irrelevant. The opposition is now attempting to use appeasement politics to increase the size of their support base. I would like to ask that they be made aware of. “CAA is the national law, and I have said almost forty-one times in the last four years that it will be implemented,” the speaker declared.
