Visiting Ladakh in the Summer (April to mid may)

The beginning of the tourist season in Ladakh begins in April, when the place becomes nimble and active. Restaurants, hotels, hostels, and guesthouses begin to open in preparation for the influx of visitors, adventurers, trekkers, and vacationers.

At this moment, the temperature is 15° C and minimum -1° C. In April, heavy snowfall ends and summer arrives. All attractions, hotels & homestays are visible, and guests are welcomed.

It’s that time of year when the Pangong Tso and Tso Moriri Lakes begin to welcome visitors and prepare to fascinate them. By the second week of May, the Srinagar-Leh highway had cleared the way for tourists to visit Ladakh.

If you travel to Ladakh in April or May, take a flight , not driving because all the roads & passes are closed this time. The weather, on the other hand, is still not as sunny and pleasant as typical during the summer. Leh Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport is nearby. There are connected flights from Delhi, Srinagar, & Jammu to reach the beautiful destination.

Visiting Ladakh From mid-May to June

This is not the ideal time to finish the circuit because the Srinagar-Leh highway just opened. Winter’s effects haven’t totally disappeared, causing odd weather; chilly roads meet you as you enter the city.

The temperature is currently at a maximum of 16° C and a minimum of 3° C. By late May, travellers pour into the city & mostly arrive by air because roads are still closed. The Manali Roads to Leh, which run over Rohtang Pass, open in early June . First 7-10 days are not suggested for travel due to snow slides & bottlenecks.

Around Rohtang and Baralacha Pass, streets are lined by huge snow barriers & there are mind-boggling snow panoramas. Visit Thiksey, Shey, Stongdey, & Likir monasteries, among others.

June is a good time to bike or walk to Leh. If you want to see snowy roads and mountains, visit Leh Ladakh in winter. By mid-June, the snow will have melted, revealing Ladakh’s beautiful lakes.

Visit monasteries and stupas and meet people. Saka Dawa, Yuru Kabgyat, and Hemis Festivals are this month.

Visiting Ladakh From July To September

During this time, all routes & roadways to the country of the lamas are opened, and the region becomes extremely friendly, with spectacular views, a biker’s and photographer’s paradise. This is best time to Ladakh trip . The temperature is maximum 25° C and minimum 10° C throughout this time.

Ladakis also celebrate a number of celebrations around this time. In July and August months, the Stongday, Karsha, Phyang, Sachukul, Korzok, Dakthok, & Sani Nasjal Festivals are held and also Hemis Festival is held. Travelling in monsoon is not advised unless its excites you to visit Ladakh during monsoon season.

By this time, the majority of hotels, guesthouses, lodges, restaurants, and other establishments have closed. Because of the cold winters, even the localities left the area to warm their homes.

Though the Srinagar-Leh and Manali-Leh highways are still open, it is not advisable to travel through them. During this time, black ice begins to form & covers Ladakh till the winter is ended.

Visiting Ladakh From Mid November to March

During this time, Ladakh had its coldest season & was cut off from the rest of India by road. Snowfall falls on Khardung La and Chang Las. Though the weather is below freezing, making survival and acclimatization difficult. Travelers begin to arrive for the legendary Chadar trek and Zanskar river walk from mid-January to mid-March.

During this time, the Zanskar River, totally frozen by now, becomes the next attraction for travelers. The temperature continues to drop, making the cold more harsh with each passing day, and totally freezing all of Ladakh’s lakes, making walking over them pleasant.

Despite the terrible weather, the Pangong Tso and Tso Moriri continue to draw people because of their shifting colors from November to Mid-January.
