Maharashtra political crisis

There is political crisis in Maharashtra that has put the fate of Shiv Sena government in trouble. Maharashtra politics has been governed by an unusual coalition since 2019 , including the right-wing Shiv Sena, the centrist NCP & the Congress, along with independent lawmakers. They managed to assemble together to cross the halfway mark of 144 lawmakers in the 288-member assembly, defeating India’s governing Bharatiya Janata Party ,which had won the largest number of seats.

Around 35 lawmakers led by state minister, Eknath Shinde reached a hotel in Guwahati city in the north-eastern state of Assam.They belong to the Shiv Sena party, which is currently governing Maharashtra as part of a coalition with the Congress party & the regional Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Mr Shinde became unreachable  after Monday’s legislative council elections in the state .

Mr Shinde also dropped the Shiv Sena from his Twitter profile & had a meeting with BJP leaders who later visited him at his hotel in Gujarat.

His revolt has brought the state’s government to the collapse and led to crisis in Maharashtra political situtaion . Mr Shinde who has been part of the Shiv Sena also claims that it is in the interests of his party.

Mr Shinde claimed that he is not quitting from the Shiv Sena & the lawmakers will carry forward the Hindu nationalist legacy of the party’s founder Balasaheb Thackeray .

Senior Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut has blamed the BJP for the revolt within his party, accusing it of trying to collapse of coalition government which has led to trouble in the Maharashtra politics

Chief minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday night, left his official residence and  delivered an emotional speech requesting the rebel lawmakers to return & have negotiation with him.

On Wednesday, the rebel  group had sent a letter with the signatures of 34 MLAs. On Thursday evening, the rebel group claimed that it had sent another letter to the Deputy Speaker of the Maharashtra Assembly, Narhari Zirwal, with the signatures of 42 MLAs claiming Mr. Shinde was the Shiv Sena’s legislative party leader.
