Jallianwala Bagh Massacre

Jallianwala Bagh MassacreIndia will never forget the day of April 13, 1919, when the peaceful rulers of independence had fired on the head of the British rule by the general’s bullets. More than 400 people were killed in this heinous massacre, including women and children. More than 2000 people were injured in this incident. The general who played this death orgy in Jallianwala Bagh was named General O Dyer.

On 13 April, in Jallianwala Bagh, near the Golden Temple in Amritsar, on the day of Baisakhi, the British united to oppose the Rowlatt Act. It was a peaceful gathering, in which many people gathered. Jallianwala Bagh was surrounded by houses from all sides. There was only one thin lane to come and go here. At the time when the gathering was taking place here and the people were listening to others peacefully, then General Dyer reached there with his troops. He had stopped all the routes to get out of here. The attention of the people was slowly going towards him.

The soldiers were taking their positions with rifles one by one behind the people sitting in Jallianwala Bagh. Suddenly, all the soldiers targeted the people. Now there was a delay in getting a hint. As soon as Dyer uttered the fire, the soldiers working under the English rule opened the mouth of their rifle and as soon as they saw it, there was death. People were running here and there to save their lives. People had jumped into the well in Jallianwala Bagh to save their lives. But his price was not good. It is said that this well was buried with corpses.

Let me tell you that the Rowlatt Act to protest was being held in Jallianwala Bagh, which was actually implemented in 1915. It was suggested by the Sedition Committee under the chairmanship of Sidney Rowlett, a British judge. This act could have stopped the ongoing freedom struggle in India. Under this, the British government could impose censorship on the press, keep the leaders in jail without any trial. Not only this, she could arrest people without warrant and prosecute them. Overall, the aim was to crush the demand for independence against the British rule and the country itself, against which the whole country was united.

This incident of Jallianwala Bagh set fire in the freedom struggle of the country. Everyone was angry. A list of 484 people who were martyred here is still present in the Deputy Commissioner Office of Amritsar. At the same time, Jallianwala Bagh has a list of 388 martyrs. Documents of the British Government acknowledge the death of 379 people and injuries to more than 200 people in this incident. These include 337 males, 4 minor children and one newborn. However unofficial statistics show that at that time more than 1000 people were killed and more than 2000 were injured.

In 1997, when Queen Elizabeth of Britain visited India, she also went to see Jallianwala Bagh. At that time, he also paid tribute to the martyrs here. However, there was strong opposition to his visit. After this, when the then Prime Minister of Britain, David Cameron, came to India in 2013, during the visit of Jallianwala Bagh, he described it as a shameful incident in British history in the visitors book.
