2021 Tata Safari SUV

2021 Tata Safari SUV is the name of the production edition of the three-line Gravitas that was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo held in February last year.

Tata Motors is set to kick off the new calendar year. Just yesterday the domestic auto major has unveiled the Altroz iTurbo variant powered by a 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine that produces 110 PS of power and 140 Nm of torque and will go on sale on 22 January. Tata Motors recently announced that it will be returning the Tata Safari nameplate with its upcoming flagship SUV and the company will debut the new SUV on Republic Day on January 26, 2021.

The first unit of the Safari nameplate has been rolled out of production lines in Pune before launch and to make shopping choices easier, 2021 Tata Safari SUV has introduced the Tata Safari Imaginator suite. It gets interactive features for customers using Augmented Reality (AR). Tata Safari will be offered in a total of four variants along with XE, XM, XT and XZ. As we all know, the Safari was showcased as ‘Gravitas’ at the 2020 Auto Expo in February last year, and the said SUV only had a six-seater layout. However, the Safari will be offered with both 6-seater and 7-seater configurations in India, with a captain seat and a bench seat in the middle row.
It was also previously reported that a panoramic sunroof will not be introduced with Gravitas. But a production-ready unit of Safari was recently spotted with a sunroof. This feature will only be offered with the range-topping XT and XZ variants. According to the report, the upcoming SUV will be brought with three paint schemes including Royal Blue, Orcus White and Daytona Gray.

In addition to the additional third row, the Safari is expected to get an electronic parking brake as well as a rear disc brake available on the Harrier. Powering the Tata Safari will be a 2.0-liter four-cylinder Kryotec diesel engine. This engine generates 170 PS of power and 350 Nm of peak torque and will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox and optional 6-speed torque converter auto.

The Safari will only be offered with a front-wheel-drive configuration, however, Tata Motors may offer the latter 4WD Edition depending on market demand. Official bookings for the Tata Safari can start before the launch on January 26 and the test drive will be made available from the last week of January, while competing against the MG Hector Plus and the new Mahindra XUV500.
