Thunderstorm

The dust and thunderstorms which hit several parts of the country on Sunday lead to more than 41 deaths in Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Delhi.

Uttar Pradesh was the worst hit as it lost 18 precious lives, while in West Bengal 12 people which included 4 children were killed. In Andhra Pradesh, 9 people died and Delhi saw 2 deaths according to officialsThunderstorm

Thunderstorms also occurred at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Assam, Meghalaya, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

This was the second storm this month and within 10 days as the previous storms in UP, Rajasthan, Telangana, Uttarakhand and Punjab, killed 134 people and injured over 400.

Agra in Uttar Pradesh bore the heaviest brunt as in total there were 80 deaths in UP.

Also on May 9th, several places in Uttar Pradesh were struck again with severe storms which killed 18 and injured 27 individuals.

    • 18 people dead because of a thunderstorm in Uttar Pradesh
    • 23 killed in Delhi, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh
    • At least 10 domestic flights were delayed on Sunday due to the storm
    • Traffic was hit in Delhi as more than 70 trees were uprooted and roads got blocked
    • A number of Trains were stranded and rail traffic was disturbed due to the thunderstorm
    • Prime Minister Modi expressed his condolences for the people who lost their lives in the storm
  • President Ramnath Kovind condoled the deaths due to thunderstorms which struck various parts of the country on Sunday, claiming dozens of lives and leaving scores of people injured.
  • More than 100 houses in Uttar Pradesh were burnt down due to thunderstorms and lightning.
  • Uttarakhand might be hit again by a storm in the next 5 days according to the met department.
  • CM Yogi Adityanathhas directed all district magistrates and commissioners to provide immediate relief and ensure medical assistance to the injured.
