The 48th International Emmy Awards ceremony was held in New York City’s Empty Theater through Virtual Live on Monday during the Corona epidemic. There was a wave of happiness for India at this event, when the web series ‘Delhi Crime’ was declared the winner in the International Best Drama Series category.
Other nominations in this event were – series ‘Chariette’ from Germany, series ‘Criminal’ from UK and series ‘The Bronze Garden-2’ from Argentina. But in front of all this, the Indian series was considered the winner.
On receiving the news, Shefali Shah Phooli, who played the lead role in this series, did not survive. He expressed his happiness by posting a video on his social media. In the video, Shefali is saying that she is not sure that ‘Delhi Crime’ has won the Emmy Award.
Shefali Shah said, “I am feeling ecstatic, excited … and all the exaggerated words of the dictionary, which are coming into the mind … It is amazing. I am very proud that I am of ‘Delhi Crime’ Part. This victory is icing on the cake. “
The web series ‘Delhi Crime’, which came on OTT platform Netflix on 22 March 2019, is the story of police arresting all criminals after the Nirbhaya gang rape in Delhi in 2012, which is led by female police officer Vartika Chaturvedi (Shefali Shah).
The series is directed by Rishi Mehta, a Canadian director of Indian origin. The makers say that the series was prepared after many years of research and for this and shooting was done at different places in Delhi.
Many actors including Shefali Shah, Rasika Duggal, Adil Hussain and Rajesh Tailang have performed well in the series.
On winning the Emmy Award for Delhi Crime, director Rishi Mehta said, “I never thought that we would get here. This is the result of many years of work of many people. Delhi crime is a labor of love, born of sorrow, Anger, despair and finally mercy. “
Rasika Duggal , who plays Niti Singh, a strong and sensitive policeman in the series, said on the success, “It is a matter of great pride for me to be a part of the Delhi Crime Show. It received an Emmy Award to encourage bold and sensitive storytelling in India Will do. “
In a special conversation with the BBC, series actor Adil Hussain said that this achievement of the series is very important because it is the thing that sets Indian filmmakers.
He says, “This series is made on a very disgusting incident but the event has not been shown even once in the entire series, while many people would have taken the opportunity to show it.”
“The series has not used any vulgarity or inappropriate profanity or forced dialogue. Despite this, if this series catches the viewers’ imagination. That’s why we got such a great award.”
Why was Delhi Crime dominated?
Film critic Mayank Shekhar says on the success of the series, “The theme of the series will be one of the reasons for winning the award, but the other special reason will be that it has been shown to be serious.”
Nirbhaya gang-rape was a very frightening criminal incident, which had seen the anger of the general public, especially the youth of Delhi, on the streets.
The role of the police in the series is shown with a very sympathetic view of how absconding convicts were found in the Delhi metropolis in just five days.

Threat of indian series
After the arrival of OTT platforms, many web series are being built in India. Indian viewers are also liking the Indian content coming in this new medium. Many international series are being preferred in India, including the countries of Spain, Germany, Korea, Israel and Turkey.
Film critic Mayank Shekhar believes that the series is half Indian series as its director is a Canadian resident of Indian origin and a large part of the team was foreign. However, the actors working in the series were Indians and the story was also from Delhi.

Actor Adil Hussain has similar hopes. He says that even after this, if the attitude of the people about Indian content does not change at the international level, then it will be very unfortunate.
By the way, it is not that no other series reached the international award before ‘Delhi Crime’. Earlier shows like ‘Sacred Game’ and ‘Lust Sustories’ were nominated for international awards.
Amazon Prime’s original series “Fo More Shorts” was also nominated in the comedy category this year.
Apart from this, Indian actor Arjun Mathur has been nominated for ‘Made in Heaven’ and Radhika Apte ‘Lust Stories’ this year. But ‘Delhi Crime’ has shown the feat of winning.
