Kanpur Outer Superintendent of Police Ashtabhuj Prasad Singh has told that the accident happened when a speeding bus hit another vehicle at a place named Sachendi.
Due to the collision, the vehicle fell on the other side of the road. The bus overturned uncontrollably and fell into the ditch.
Kanpur Police Commissioner Aseem Arun told that a private bus going from Unnao to Gujarat collided with a tempo in front. The bus overturned in the accident and the tempo was also badly damaged.
After the accident, the local people first reached there who took out the injured.
Police reached the spot and sent all the injured to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital in Kanpur where doctors declared 16 injured dead. One injured person died during treatment. At present four injured are undergoing treatment.
A 15-year-old youth is also included among the injured, whose corona has been confirmed to be infected.
Most of the workers who died
Local journalist Ankit Shukla from Kanpur has told that the collision took place between a private bus and a tempo.
He said that most of the people killed in the accident were laborers working in a nearby biscuit factory.
He says that most of the people who died are from Lalhepur and Ishwariganj villages of Sachendi. Most of them are youths who used to work in a biscuit factory located nearby and were going to work in the night shift.
Three brothers from the same family and two brothers from another family are also among those who died in the accident. Among the dead, 13 are from Lalhepur village and four from Ishwariganj village.
Dipu Chauhan, a Dhaba operator who reached the spot, informed that many people were trapped who were rescued with the help of the people. Many people died on the spot.
