Punjab Municipal Election Results 2021: In Punjab (Punjab) elections were held on February 14 on 117 local bodies. Of which 109 are municipal councils and nagar panchayats. At the same time, 8 municipal corporations are involved. A total of 9 thousand 222 candidates participated in this election.

It is noteworthy that in six of the seven municipal corporations of Punjab, the ruling Congress has won in the state, while in the seventh municipal corporation, it has emerged as the largest party. The party has cleared the opposition parties in the urban body elections. In the backdrop of the farmers’ agitation against the three agricultural laws of the central government, the Congress has registered a landslide victory in Bathinda, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Abohar, Batala and Pathankot in the elections held in the municipal corporations. However, the Congress has emerged as the single largest party in Moga and by a majority it has fallen behind by six seats.

The counting of votes for another municipal corporation will be done on Thursday. Apart from this, 109 city council election results are also expected. This election result is going to boost morale for the Congress against the BJP-led NDA government at the Center as farmers are protesting against the central government and the Congress is supporting them. Most of the agitating farmers are from Punjab and Haryana.

No political party has got a majority in Moga and in this case the support of independents will be important. The Congress has become the largest party by winning 20 of the 50 wards of Moga Municipal Corporation. After this, the Shiromani Akali Dal has won 15 while the Aam Aadmi Party has won in four wards. The Bharatiya Janata Party has had to be content with only one seat. Ten independents have won here.

State Election Commission had directed to re-vote at two polling stations of Mohali Municipal Corporation. Therefore, the vote of the entire corporation will be counted on Thursday. A total of 9,222 candidates were in the fray for the eight municipal corporations and 109 city councils.

The ruling Congress in the state fielded 2,037 candidates for these elections. At the same time, SAD fielded 1,569, BJP 1,003, AAP 1,606 and BSP 160 candidates. 2,832 independents were also in the fray for these elections.
