Rarely does one come across a Bollywood film with such brilliance and class. October is a gem of a film and the superb performances of Varun Dhawan and Babita Sandhu make it more so. You, although have to be patient with the film to reap its full rewards. The artistic portrayal of hidden emotions and the underlined fleeting feelings make this a film not to be missed.
The main character of the film, the protagonist is Danish Walia who is a 21-year-old working in the hospitality industry and is unhappy and unsatisfied with his work which includes the constant badgering of hotel guests and scornful seniors. Varun Dhawan slips out of his hero trappings and beautifully and brilliantly slips into the character of the protagonist. His performance is sheer music and this surely is the performance of his lifetime.
The female protagonist is Shiuli Iyer, a Tamil girl with a Bengali name who only uses her unblinking eyes and comatose countenance to convey her depth, intensity and pain. Babita Sandhu plays the character beautifully and her acting is outstanding.
The two leads coordinate and co act so well that this hardly feels like a Bollywood melodrama.
The two trainees in a five-star hotel are trying to make a mark for themselves. Shiuli is very serious about her career and is totally focused while Danish is cynical and frustrated with the long working hours and lack of job satisfaction.
An accident occurs midway in the film. The girl plummets to the ground from the third floor of the hotel. The boy, who is not present when the accident occurs, emotionally broken and confused about the circumstances.
The drama unfolds further more and the film reveals hidden and subtle emotions.
This film is a must watch if you like deep meaningful cinema. It has many shades and contours and challenges the viewer to explore his hidden emotions.
We give this film 4 stars out of 5. There is nothing wrong with the film, it surely is a masterpiece but still with the best, we can still hope for better than the best.
