On Tuesday, Bollywood actor Farhan Akhtar announced that the star has deleted his Facebook account and that his Facebook page, ‘FarhanAkhtarLive’ is still active.

The Bhag Milkha Bhaag star stated no reason for deleting the account on Twitter but it appears to be in the wake of the hashtag “#DeleteFacebook,” which has been the top trend across social media platforms for a while now.Farhan Akhtar

According to a Guardian report, Facebook stored and secretly shared the personal information of 50 million users, without their consent, which led to several users to delete their accounts from the popular social networking site.

Elon Musk, the boss of Tesla and SpaceX, deleted the Facebook pages of both companies last week.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg accepted last week that the issue of privacy leaks and flaws was a major breach of trust. The data was shared with a US-based election consultancy firm, Cambridge Analytica, which even has a connect with Indian political parties BJP and Congress.

Twitter users, in large numbers, cheered Farhan, who is also active on Twitter and Instagram, for his act of account deletion.

Other Bollywood celebrities such as Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra have only one Facebook account, which is used for the promotion of their upcoming projects and for their personal purpose.

Farhan maintained separate pages for his personal and professional profiles.

Farhan last acted in Lucknow Central in 2017 and also produced the popular movie Fukrey Returns last year.

This is one of the biggest stories of the year and Facebook is facing the flak for a data breach. This is sure to dent Facebook’s image and pave the way for other social platforms with stricter norms, to flourish and thrive.
