Today, Airtel and Vodafone’s services remained closed in many areas of Delhi. Keeping this in mind, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has launched the free Wi-Fi scheme. Users were also waiting for this service for a long time. This service has been launched by CM Kejriwal at ITO bus stand and by Deputy CM Manish Sisodia at University Metro Station.

Due to the protests in Delhi, the Delhi Police had written letters to Airtel, Jio, MTNL, BSNL and Vodafone-Idea, saying that they would have to discontinue voice, SMS and Internet service in some areas of Delhi. The places where these services will be closed include North and Central Delhi. All communication services were closed in areas like Mandi House, Jamia Nagar, Shaheen Bagh, Seelampur, Zafarabad and Bawana.

Kejriwal says that it is an irony that Internet services are closed in the city on the day we have started free internet scheme. He also said that he hopes that the situation will be overcome soon. More than 100 hotspots have been provided to provide free Wi-Fi internet facility in the city. Kejriwal says that if more than 11,000 hotspots will be made available in Delhi in 6 months. The hotspots will be made available throughout the city in Phase Two to provide service.
