Assam Bengal Earthquake

Assam Bengal Earthquake: The epicenter of the earthquake was Sonitpur and according to the National Center for Seismology, it hit a depth of 171 km at 7.51 am. Several houses and buildings in Assam were damaged as the state received a massive 6.4 magnitude tremor on Wednesday morning. The epicenter of the earthquake was in Sonitpur district and was followed by two aftershocks of magnitude 4 and 3.1 respectively.

According to the National Center for Seismology, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 17 kilometers at 7.51 am. Earthquake tremors were felt throughout the Northeast region including neighboring Northeast Meghalaya. There was also a shortage in some parts of West Bengal

“There was a big earthquake in Assam, I pray for the good of all and urge everyone to be vigilant. Taking updates from all the districts, “tweeted Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Senior Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted that the epicenter of the earthquake was in Dhekiajuli town of Sonitpur.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Twitter that he spoke to Sonowal and assured all possible help from the Center. “Talked to Asam Chief Minister Mr. @sarbanandsonwal ji regarding earthquake in some parts of the state. Assured all possible help from the center. I pray for the well being of the people of Assam.

Home Minister Amit Shah also tweeted, “Talked with Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal to assess the situation in different parts of the state after the earthquake. The central government stands firmly with our sisters and brothers of Assam. Praying for the safety and welfare of all. ”

Many buildings in Tezpur, district headquarters of Sonitpur, Guwahati and other places developed cracks.
