At a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a visit to the US, Washington has made it clear that India will not be included in the Aukus, the Australia-UK-US military organization. Modi will meet US Vice President Kamala Harris and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison shortly after. He will also meet Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga. US Presidential White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, while talking to reporters, clarified on Thursday that there is no plan to include India and Japan in Aukus.

What is AUKUS?

Aukus is security pact between United State, United Kingdom and Australia under which Australia will build nuclear-powered submarines with the help of UK, and American technology. Apart from this, they will also get the technology to make weapons with artificial intelligence. Saki told reporters.

President Joe Biden has indicated to French President Emmanuel Macron that no one else will be included in this organization formed to protect the Indo-Pacific.

Jockus? When asked if there would be no military treaty for Japan or India, Saki jokingly asked, “Aukus, then what will it be, Jockus or Jyokus.” This question is being raised because after the formation of the Aukus, Australia canceled the order already given to France to build submarines.

The issue of India and Australia is being raised because these countries are also in the quad. Apart from America, Australia, Japan and India are also in the Quad i.e. Quadilateral Strategic Dialogues. This organization is being called a political and regional organization, although observers say that it is an organization created to stop China in the South China Sea so that Beijing could not expand its territory in the Indo-Pacific region.

During Modi’s visit to America, there will be a meeting of the Quad, in which the heads of states of the four countries will participate. It will be attended by US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga. Then the question is, why Japan and India have been kept out of focus?
