FIR against Anil Deshmukh

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday registered a preliminary inquiry against former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh (FIR against Anil Deshmukh) to investigate allegations of corruption. This information was provided by officers. A team from the Central Investigation Agency reached Mumbai on Tuesday afternoon and collected all the relevant documents.

The agency started a preliminary inquiry in compliance with the Bombay High Court order. CBI spokesperson RC Joshi and said that CBI has registered a preliminary inquiry in the light of the Bombay High Court order dated 5 April 2021. It is noteworthy that the High Court gave 15 days to CBI for the preliminary inquiry into the allegations.

The Maharashtra government moved the Supreme Court on Tuesday challenging the CBI probe against former state home minister Anil Deshmukh. The Bombay High Court, while hearing Parambir Singh’s plea, ordered the CBI to conduct a  inquiry against Anil Deshmukh. The Bombay High Court has asked the CBI to file a reply in this matter within 15 days. The Maharashtra government has challenged this decision in the Supreme Court. It has also been reported that former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has personally approached the Supreme Court.

Dilip Patil took charge as Home Minister

After the resignation of Anil Deshmukh, the new Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil took over as Home Minister on Tuesday afternoon. Taking the FIR against Anil Deshmukh, Patil said that in a very difficult time, I am being given an important responsibility. He said that all my efforts will be that the police department should run from the system. Let us tell you that on Monday evening, the Chief Minister of the state Uddhav Thackeray had written a letter to the Governor recommending the acceptance of Deshmukh’s resignation, after which the Governor accepted it.
